What Is Treatment Name?

PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) are regenerative treatments that use concentrated growth factors derived from your own blood to stimulate tissue repair, collagen production, and cellular renewal. A small blood sample is drawn, processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the healing components, and then reintroduced to targeted areas of the face or body.

PRF vs. PRP: The WunderLife Preference

WunderLife primarily uses PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin), a next-generation evolution of PRP. PRF is processed without anticoagulants, producing a natural fibrin matrix that releases growth factors slowly over 10 to 14 days rather than the rapid burst release seen with PRP. This sustained release may support more durable tissue regeneration. PRP remains available where clinically appropriate, but PRF is the preferred protocol for most patients at WunderLife.

The WunderLife Approach: Autologous Regeneration

At WunderLife in Bad Vilbel, near Frankfurt, all PRF and PRP treatments are performed by Dr. med. Désirée Grawunder. Because the treatment uses your own biological material, there is no risk of allergic reaction or rejection. The specific application method — injection, topical application during microneedling, or a combination — is determined by your PRIME Profile assessment and treatment goals.

Applications

PRF can be used as standalone injections for under-eye rejuvenation, facial volume restoration, and skin quality improvement. It is also used as a topical adjunct during microneedling to enhance growth factor delivery through open micro-channels. PRF membranes can be applied as bioactive masks for concentrated surface treatment. The versatility of PRF makes it one of the most adaptable regenerative tools in the WunderLife treatment portfolio.

How Treatment Name Works

Step 1: Consultation & Treatment Planning

Dr. med. Désirée Grawunder reviews your PRIME Profile and discusses your treatment goals. She determines whether PRF or PRP is more appropriate, the application method (injection, topical with microneedling, or membrane), and the specific treatment areas. Medical history is reviewed to confirm suitability.

Step 2: Blood Draw

A small sample of blood — typically 10 to 20 millilitres (similar to a standard blood test) — is drawn from your arm using a standard venipuncture technique. This is a quick and routine procedure.

Step 3: Centrifugation & PRF Preparation

The blood sample is placed in a specialized centrifuge and processed to separate the platelet-rich components from red blood cells. For PRF, the process uses no additives or anticoagulants, producing a natural fibrin matrix rich in platelets, white blood cells, and growth factors. The preparation takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 4: Application

Depending on the treatment plan, PRF is either injected directly into targeted areas using fine needles (under-eyes, nasolabial folds, temples, or other facial zones), applied topically to the skin during a microneedling procedure for enhanced growth factor penetration, or prepared as a PRF membrane and applied as a bioactive mask. For injection treatments, a topical numbing cream may be applied beforehand for comfort.

Step 5: Aftercare

Post-treatment instructions are provided, including avoiding intense exercise, alcohol, and direct sun exposure for 24 to 48 hours. Dr. Grawunder schedules follow-up sessions based on the treatment plan — typically a series of 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart for optimal results.

Is Treatment Name Right for You?

PRF and PRP treatments are suitable for patients who want to harness their body’s own regenerative capacity for skin rejuvenation. Because the treatment uses autologous (self-derived) material, it is exceptionally well-tolerated and carries no risk of allergic reaction.

Concerns Addressed

PRF and PRP may help with under-eye dark circles and hollowing, fine lines and loss of skin elasticity, dull or devitalized skin, acne scars and post-inflammatory marks (especially combined with microneedling), mild facial volume loss, overall skin quality and texture, and hair thinning (scalp PRP/PRF).

Ideal Candidates

Patients who prefer natural, biocompatible treatments with minimal synthetic ingredients. Those seeking under-eye rejuvenation where traditional fillers may not be appropriate. Patients who want to amplify results from microneedling or other skin treatments. Individuals in the PRIME Repair or Enhance phases who want regenerative support for tissue healing. Patients interested in preventive aging strategies using their body’s own growth factors.

Who Should Avoid PRF/PRP

PRF and PRP treatments may not be suitable for patients with blood disorders or clotting abnormalities, active cancer or ongoing chemotherapy, severe anaemia or low platelet count, active skin infections in the treatment area, current use of blood-thinning medications (assessment required), or pregnancy. Dr. med. Désirée Grawunder reviews medical history and blood work as part of the consultation to confirm suitability before treatment.

What to Expect

During the Treatment

The blood draw feels like a standard blood test — a brief pinch at the arm. During centrifugation (10–15 minutes), you can relax while the PRF is being prepared. For injection treatments, a topical numbing cream is applied beforehand. The injections themselves involve fine needles and most patients describe mild pressure or a slight pinching sensation. When PRF is used topically with microneedling, the experience is similar to a standard microneedling session. Total treatment time is approximately 45 to 75 minutes.

Immediately After

For PRF injections, expect mild swelling and redness at the injection sites, which is normal and typically resolves within 24 to 48 hours. Small bruises may appear, particularly in the under-eye area, and can take 5 to 7 days to fade. For topical PRF with microneedling, the post-treatment appearance is similar to microneedling alone — redness and mild swelling for 24 to 72 hours.

First 48 Hours

Avoid intense exercise, alcohol, saunas, and direct sun exposure. Do not massage or apply pressure to the treatment areas. Use only the gentle cleanser and moisturizer recommended by Dr. Grawunder. For injection treatments, avoid makeup on injection sites for 12 to 24 hours.

First 2 Weeks

The PRF fibrin matrix releases growth factors gradually over 10 to 14 days, supporting ongoing tissue regeneration beneath the surface. You may notice improving skin quality, hydration, and subtle volume restoration during this period. Any residual bruising should resolve completely.

Full Results

PRF results develop progressively as collagen remodeling takes place over 4 to 8 weeks. Most patients see meaningful improvement in skin quality, texture, and volume after a series of 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Results from a complete treatment series may last 6 to 12 months, with maintenance sessions recommended as part of the PRIME Maintain protocol. Dr. med. Désirée Grawunder assesses progress at each session and adjusts the protocol accordingly.

Medical Standards & Evidence

All PRF and PRP treatments at WunderLife are performed by Dr. med. Désirée Grawunder, a licensed physician. The preparation and injection of blood-derived products is a medical procedure that requires physician-level training, sterile technique, and the ability to manage any adverse events.

Autologous Safety

PRF and PRP are derived entirely from your own blood. This autologous approach eliminates the risk of allergic reaction, immune rejection, or disease transmission that can be associated with synthetic or donor-derived products. The centrifugation process uses no chemical additives (for PRF) or only a small amount of anticoagulant (for PRP), keeping the preparation as close to the body’s natural composition as possible.

Side Effects

Because the treatment uses your own biological material, side effects are generally mild and related to the injection or application method rather than the product itself. Common side effects include redness and swelling at injection sites lasting 24 to 48 hours, bruising (especially in delicate areas like the under-eyes) lasting 5 to 7 days, mild tenderness or sensitivity at treated areas, and temporary warmth or tightness. Serious complications are very rare. Infection risk is minimized through sterile preparation and injection technique.

Evidence Base

Both PRP and PRF have a substantial body of published clinical research supporting their use in aesthetic medicine, wound healing, and tissue regeneration. PRF in particular has been the subject of growing research interest, with studies demonstrating its sustained growth factor release profile and its efficacy when combined with microneedling for skin rejuvenation and scar treatment.

Medical Oversight

WunderLife’s PRF protocols comply with German Heilmittelwerbegesetz (HWG) regulations and follow current evidence-based guidelines. Blood is drawn and processed on-site in a sterile clinical environment. All equipment is CE-marked for medical use. Patient suitability is confirmed through medical history review and, where necessary, blood work prior to treatment.

How This Treatment Fits Into PRIME

PRF and PRP sit within the Aesthetic pillar of the BAM Framework and represent WunderLife’s commitment to regenerative, biology-first approaches to aesthetic medicine. Because these treatments harness the body’s own healing mechanisms, they embody the PRIME Protocol’s philosophy of working with your biology rather than against it.

Profile Phase

Your PRIME Profile assessment includes evaluation of skin quality, volume loss, and areas of concern that may benefit from regenerative treatment. Dr. med. Désirée Grawunder uses this data to determine whether PRF is appropriate as a standalone treatment or as an adjunct to other procedures in your protocol.

Repair Phase

PRF is particularly valuable during the Repair phase. Its concentrated growth factors accelerate tissue healing and collagen production, making it ideal for patients recovering from more intensive procedures or addressing damage from aging, sun exposure, or scarring. PRF combined with microneedling during the Repair phase can amplify the regenerative response significantly.

Maintain Phase

Periodic PRF sessions — typically every 6 to 12 months — help maintain collagen levels, skin quality, and the regenerative gains achieved during earlier treatment phases. These maintenance sessions support the body’s ongoing capacity for self-renewal as part of a long-term PRIME care plan.

Enhance Phase

In the Enhance phase, PRF can be combined with dermal fillers for comprehensive facial rejuvenation, used at higher volumes for more ambitious regenerative goals, or applied to new treatment areas such as the scalp for hair restoration or the décolletage for skin quality improvement.

Common Questions About This Treatment

What is the difference between PRF and PRP?

Both use concentrated platelets from your own blood. PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is processed with an anticoagulant and releases growth factors quickly. PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) is processed without additives, creating a natural fibrin matrix that releases growth factors gradually over 10 to 14 days. WunderLife primarily uses PRF for its sustained regenerative benefits.

Does the blood draw hurt?

The blood draw feels like a standard blood test — a brief pinch at the arm. Only 10 to 20 millilitres are needed, which is a small amount. Most patients find it quick and straightforward.

How long does a PRF treatment take?

Total treatment time is approximately 45 to 75 minutes, including the blood draw (5 minutes), centrifugation (10–15 minutes), and the injection or application procedure (20–40 minutes depending on the method and treatment area).

Will I bruise after PRF injections?

Bruising is possible, particularly in delicate areas like the under-eyes. When it occurs, bruising is typically mild and resolves within 5 to 7 days. Dr. med. Désirée Grawunder uses techniques designed to minimize bruising, but some patients may want to plan treatment timing around social commitments.

How many PRF sessions do I need?

Most patients achieve optimal results with a series of 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. After the initial series, maintenance sessions every 6 to 12 months help sustain results. The exact protocol depends on your treatment goals and is determined as part of your PRIME Protocol.

Can PRF be combined with other treatments?

Yes. PRF is frequently combined with microneedling at WunderLife, where it is applied topically during the procedure to deliver growth factors directly through the micro-channels. PRF can also complement dermal filler treatments, chemical peels, and other aesthetic procedures. All combination protocols are managed within the PRIME framework.

Is PRF safe?

PRF is considered one of the safest aesthetic treatments available because it uses only your own blood with no synthetic additives. There is no risk of allergic reaction or immune rejection. Side effects are limited to mild, temporary injection-site reactions such as swelling and bruising. All treatments at WunderLife are performed by a licensed physician in a sterile clinical environment.
