What Is Treatment Name?

Neuromodulators are injectable treatments that use botulinum toxin type A to temporarily relax targeted facial muscles, softening existing expression lines and helping prevent new ones from forming. At WunderLife in Bad Vilbel, near Frankfurt, Dr. med. Désirée Grawunder works with three approved botulinum toxin preparations and selects the appropriate product based on each patient's indication, anatomy, and treatment history.

Three Approved Preparations, One Standard of Care

WunderLife stocks Botox® (Allergan/AbbVie), Bocouture® (Merz Pharmaceuticals), and Azzalure® (Galderma/Ipsen). All three contain botulinum toxin type A as the active ingredient and are approved by the European Medicines Agency for aesthetic use. They differ in formulation details — particle size, presence or absence of complexing proteins, and diffusion characteristics — which can make one preparation a better fit than another for a specific patient or treatment area.

Rather than offering a single product to every patient, Dr. Grawunder evaluates which preparation is most appropriate based on your PRIME Profile data, your muscle activity patterns, and any prior treatment history. This individualised approach is uncommon and reflects WunderLife's clinical philosophy: the patient determines the protocol, not the inventory.

The PRIME Profile Foundation

Every neuromodulator treatment at WunderLife begins with your PRIME Profile data. Dr. Grawunder uses 3D facial mapping and Golden Ratio analysis to identify precisely which muscles to treat and how much product to place, designed to support results that look natural and proportionate to your unique facial anatomy.

Neuromodulators are one of the most extensively studied aesthetic treatments worldwide, with decades of clinical evidence supporting their safety and efficacy when administered by a qualified physician.

How Treatment Name Works

Consultation and Assessment

Your treatment begins with a thorough facial analysis. Dr. Grawunder reviews your PRIME Profile data, examines your facial muscle patterns at rest and during expression, and discusses your goals. Using 3D imaging, she maps the precise injection points tailored to your anatomy.

Preparation

The treatment area is cleansed. Topical numbing is available but rarely needed — the injections use ultra-fine needles that most patients describe as a brief pinch. The entire preparation takes approximately 5 minutes.

Injection

Small, precisely measured doses of Bocouture® are injected into the targeted muscles using micro-injection technique. Common treatment areas include forehead lines, frown lines (glabellar region), and crow’s feet around the eyes. The number of injection points and units used varies based on your individual assessment.

Aftercare

You may resume normal activities immediately. Dr. Grawunder provides specific aftercare instructions, including avoiding lying flat for 4 hours and refraining from intense exercise for 24 hours. A follow-up assessment is scheduled at 2 weeks to evaluate your results and make any refinements if needed.

Is Treatment Name Right for You?

Neuromodulator treatment at WunderLife may be appropriate for adults who wish to address dynamic facial lines — the wrinkles that appear during facial expression and gradually deepen over time.

Common Concerns Addressed

Horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines between the eyebrows (also known as “eleven lines”), crow’s feet around the eyes, bunny lines on the nose, and a dimpled or “orange peel” chin. Neuromodulators may also be used for a subtle brow lift or to soften a gummy smile.

Preventive Use

Increasingly, patients in their late 20s and 30s choose neuromodulator treatment as a preventive measure. By relaxing muscles before deep static lines form, the treatment can help delay the visible signs of aging. Dr. Grawunder assesses whether preventive treatment is appropriate based on your individual muscle activity patterns.

Who Should Not Receive This Treatment

Neuromodulators are not suitable for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, those with neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis, or patients with a known allergy to botulinum toxin or albumin. A full medical history review is conducted during your PRIME Profile consultation before any treatment is recommended.

What to Expect

During Your Treatment

The injection process takes approximately 15-30 minutes depending on the number of areas treated. Most patients describe the sensation as a brief pinch at each injection site. No anaesthesia is required, though a topical numbing cream can be applied upon request. You remain fully awake and comfortable throughout.

Immediately After

Small red marks may be visible at injection sites for 1-2 hours. Slight swelling or tenderness is normal and resolves quickly. You can return to work, social activities, and most daily routines immediately. Makeup may be applied after 4 hours.

The First Week

The neuromodulator begins taking effect within 3-5 days. You may notice a gradual softening of treated lines as the muscles relax. Avoid facial massages, saunas, and vigorous exercise for 24-48 hours after treatment.

Full Results

Optimal results are typically visible at 10-14 days. Dr. Grawunder schedules a complimentary follow-up appointment at the two-week mark to assess your outcome and make minor adjustments if needed. Results typically last 3-4 months, at which point the muscle activity gradually returns and maintenance treatment can be scheduled.

Medical Standards & Evidence

All neuromodulator treatments at WunderLife are performed exclusively by Dr. med. Désirée Grawunder, a licensed physician with specific training in facial anatomy and aesthetic injection techniques. No treatment is delegated to non-physician staff.

Product Safety

WunderLife uses three botulinum toxin type A preparations, all approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for aesthetic use and sourced exclusively from licensed German pharmacies. Botox® is manufactured by Allergan (an AbbVie company) and has the longest aesthetic-use track record of any neuromodulator worldwide. Bocouture® is manufactured by Merz Pharmaceuticals and is a highly purified formulation free from complexing proteins. Azzalure® is manufactured by Galderma/Ipsen and offers diffusion characteristics that can be advantageous for certain treatment areas. All products are stored in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and used only within their approved indications.

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects may include temporary redness, mild swelling, or minor bruising at injection sites. These typically resolve within hours to days. Less common effects may include a temporary headache or a sensation of heaviness in the treated area. Rare complications such as eyelid ptosis (temporary drooping) occur in fewer than 1% of cases and resolve on their own as the product wears off.

Medical Oversight

Every patient receives a comprehensive medical history review before treatment. Dr. Grawunder personally conducts the assessment, performs the injections, and manages follow-up care. If neuromodulators are not appropriate for your situation, she will recommend alternative approaches from the WunderLife treatment portfolio.

How This Treatment Fits Into PRIME

Neuromodulators sit within the Aesthetic pillar of the BAM Framework and are typically introduced during the Repair or Enhance phases of the PRIME Protocol.

Profile Phase

During your initial PRIME Profile consultation, Dr. Grawunder captures 3D facial imaging and conducts a Golden Ratio analysis. This data reveals your unique muscle activity patterns and facial proportions, establishing an objective baseline for treatment planning.

Repair and Enhance Phases

If neuromodulators are part of your treatment protocol, the initial session addresses existing lines (Repair). Subsequent maintenance sessions, typically every 3-4 months, fall under the Enhance phase — refining results and adapting to changes over time.

Maintain Phase

Your 3D imaging is updated at each PRIME review, allowing Dr. Grawunder to track subtle changes in facial dynamics and adjust your neuromodulator protocol accordingly. This data-driven approach means your treatment evolves with you rather than following a fixed template.

Common Questions About This Treatment

How long do neuromodulator results last?

Results typically last 3-4 months. With regular maintenance treatments, some patients find that results begin to last longer over time as the treated muscles gradually weaken from reduced use.

Will I look frozen or unnatural?

No. Dr. Grawunder uses 3D facial mapping and conservative dosing to preserve natural facial expression while softening lines. The goal is to look refreshed, not altered. Your unique muscle patterns and facial proportions guide every treatment decision.

Does the injection hurt?

Most patients describe the sensation as a brief pinch. The needles used are ultra-fine, and the procedure is well-tolerated without anaesthesia. A topical numbing cream is available upon request.

How soon can I return to normal activities?

Immediately. There is no downtime required. You should avoid lying flat for 4 hours, intense exercise for 24 hours, and facial massages for 48 hours after treatment.

What is the difference between Botox®, Bocouture®, and Azzalure®?

All three are approved botulinum toxin type A preparations and work through the same mechanism — temporary relaxation of targeted facial muscles. The differences lie in formulation. Botox® (Allergan/AbbVie) is the most extensively studied neuromodulator worldwide. Bocouture® (Merz Pharmaceuticals) is a highly purified formulation without complexing proteins, which can be relevant for patients receiving long-term treatment. Azzalure® (Galderma/Ipsen) has diffusion characteristics that some injectors prefer for specific anatomic areas. Dr. Grawunder evaluates which preparation best suits your individual indication and anatomy rather than using a single product for every patient.

Can neuromodulators be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Neuromodulators are frequently combined with dermal fillers, JetPeel facials, or skin treatments as part of a comprehensive aesthetic protocol. Dr. Grawunder coordinates the timing and sequencing of combined treatments based on your PRIME Protocol plan.

At what age should I start neuromodulator treatment?

There is no single correct age. Some patients begin in their late 20s as a preventive measure, while others start in their 40s or 50s to address established lines. Dr. Grawunder assesses your individual facial dynamics and recommends timing based on your specific needs and goals.
