Book Your PRIME ProfileOVERVIEW
Polynucleotides (PNs) are purified DNA fragments — typically derived from salmon or trout — that function as biological scaffolds when injected into the skin. Unlike fillers that add volume or neuromodulators that relax muscle, polynucleotides work at the cellular level to activate your skin's own regenerative mechanisms.
Once introduced into the dermis, these biocompatible molecules stimulate fibroblast activity — the cells responsible for producing collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. The result is measurably improved skin hydration, elasticity, texture, and tone that develops progressively and lasts months.
At WunderLife, Dr. med. Désirée Grawunder uses polynucleotide therapy as part of the Repair and Maintain phases of the PRIME Protocol, where tissue-level regeneration supports lasting skin health rather than surface-level correction.
THE PROCESS
Polynucleotides are administered via a series of precise micro-injections into the dermal layer of the skin using fine-gauge needles (30G–32G). The treatment can be delivered using mesotherapy technique (multiple shallow injections) or targeted placement depending on the area and concern.
Once injected, polynucleotides form a hydrophilic scaffold within the tissue that attracts and retains water molecules, providing immediate hydration. Over the following weeks, this scaffold stimulates fibroblasts to increase production of collagen and elastin — the structural proteins that maintain skin firmness and bounce.
Polynucleotides also act as free-radical scavengers, reducing oxidative stress caused by UV exposure, pollution, and natural aging. This protective action helps preserve existing healthy tissue while new collagen forms.
A typical course consists of three sessions spaced two to four weeks apart, allowing each treatment to build upon the previous one. Maintenance sessions are recommended every four to six months to sustain results. Dr. Grawunder tailors the protocol to your PRIME Profile assessment.
IDEAL CANDIDATES
Polynucleotide therapy is suitable for a wide range of patients seeking genuine skin quality improvement rather than temporary cosmetic correction. Ideal candidates include those experiencing:
The treatment is particularly valued for under-eye rejuvenation, where many other injectables are unsuitable due to the delicacy of the tissue. Polynucleotides are also an excellent preventive option for patients in their late 20s to early 40s seeking to maintain skin quality proactively.
Polynucleotides are not recommended for patients with active skin infections, severe inflammatory acne, certain autoimmune conditions, or known fish allergies. Dr. Grawunder assesses suitability during your PRIME Profile consultation.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
A topical numbing cream is applied 20–30 minutes before the procedure for comfort. The polynucleotide solution is then administered through a series of micro-injections using ultra-fine needles. Most patients describe the sensation as a mild pricking — comparable to microneedling. The entire procedure takes approximately 30–45 minutes depending on the treatment area.
You may notice small raised papules at the injection sites and mild redness, both of which typically resolve within 24–48 hours. Slight swelling is normal, particularly in the under-eye area. You can return to normal activities the same day.
Avoid intense exercise, saunas, and direct sun exposure for 24–48 hours post-treatment. Do not apply makeup to the treated area for at least 12 hours. Use a gentle moisturiser and SPF 50 as directed by Dr. Grawunder.
Initial improvements in hydration and skin texture are often noticeable within the first one to two weeks. Collagen remodelling continues progressively, with optimal results visible after completing the full course of three sessions. The skin appears firmer, more hydrated, and genuinely healthier — with results that look natural rather than “done.”
SAFETY & SCIENCE
Polynucleotides have been used in regenerative medicine for decades and are supported by a growing body of peer-reviewed clinical evidence in aesthetic dermatology. The molecules are highly biocompatible — structurally similar to human DNA — and carry minimal risk of allergic reaction or rejection.
Published clinical studies demonstrate that polynucleotide injections significantly improve skin hydration, elasticity, and texture while reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Research in journals including the International Journal of Molecular Sciences and Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology confirms their efficacy across multiple indications including periorbital rejuvenation, facial skin quality, and scar remodelling.
Side effects are generally mild and transient: localised redness, small papules at injection sites, and occasional minor bruising. These typically resolve within 24–48 hours. Serious adverse events are extremely rare when the treatment is performed by a qualified medical professional.
Polynucleotide therapy is not suitable for patients with active skin infections in the treatment area, known allergy to fish-derived products, severe autoimmune conditions, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. A thorough medical history review is conducted as part of every PRIME Profile assessment.
All polynucleotide treatments at WunderLife are personally performed by Dr. med. Désirée Grawunder using CE-marked, medical-grade products. Treatment plans are individualised based on your diagnostic assessment, not offered as a one-size-fits-all protocol.
THE PRIME PROTOCOL
Polynucleotide therapy maps directly to the PRIME Protocol’s emphasis on biological repair and sustained maintenance:
This treatment exemplifies WunderLife’s approach: working with your biology, not against it, for transformation that is measured, progressive, and sustainable.
